With the evolution in the method of barbequing, sauce has entered the scene and is shaking things up. Here are the most famous sauce types paired with some delicious recipes you can try.

Tomato-based barbeque sauce

This is the most commonly used barbeque sauce on this list. It has a ketchup base that renders a sweet and tangy flavor. Worcestershire sauce, Kansas City Barbecue Sauce, Memphis Barbecue Sauce, etc. are famous tomato-based barbeque sauces.

You can create wonders with this sauce because it goes well with any kind of meat. Tomato-based barbeque sauce has a rich thick consistency that makes it a great marinade. Ribs, bacon, sausages, and even steaks taste great when cooked with this sauce.

Sauce Recipe:

– 2 cups tomato sauce or ketchup
– 1/2 cup apple juice
– 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 5 Tbsp butter
– 3 Tbsp paprika
– 2 Tbsp chili powder
– 1 Tbsp chipotle powder (optional)
– 4 finely chopped garlic cloves
– 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
– Salt to taste
– Cayenne to taste

To a saucepan, add the ingredients. Simmer for 15 to 30 minutes to give time for the flavors to blend so the tomato does not overpower the rest. Use immediately or refrigerate the sauce for a day before you use it.

You can use this homemade BBQ sauce for pulled pork and for 4 racks of ribs.

Vinegar-based barbeque sauce

Vinegar-based barbeque sauce has a thin consistency and renders a tangy spicy flavor. Classic North Carolina sauce and Florida barbeque sauce are the best examples of Vinegar-based barbeque sauces.

Vinegar-based barbeque goes great with any kind of pork recipe. You can try making pulled pork, Filipino pork barbecue, sticky hoisin pork steaks, pork belly slices, pork ribs, or Pinoy pork barbecue with this sauce.

Sauce Recipe:

– 2 cups apple cider vinegar
– 1 cup ketchup
– ½ cup brown sugar
– ¼ cup hot sauce
– 2 tablespoons chili powder
– 2 tablespoons whole peppercorn
– 1 tablespoon salt
– 1 tablespoon red chili pepper flakes
– 1 teaspoon dry mustard

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar and spices all dissolve. Bring to a low simmer and cook 10-15 minutes, then turn off the heat. Strain the sauce into a bowl to remove the chili pepper flakes and peppercorns (and discard the pepper flakes and peppercorns). Then, when cool, place BBQ sauce into a jar with a tight sealing lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.

Mustard-based barbeque sauce

Mustard has a really strong flavor and with that as a base, this barbeque sauce is a little on the spicier side. Mustard-based barbeque sauce has a thin consistency that makes it perfect for marination and glaze. South Carolina sauce and Georgia mustard barbeque sauce are the most commonly used mustard-based barbeque sauces.

Just like vinegar-based barbeque sauce, the mustard-based sauce also turns every pork barbeque into something yummy. You can cook amazing pork chops, steaks, and ribs with mustard-based barbeque sauce.

Sauce Recipe:

– 1 cup prepared yellow mustard
– ¼ cup honey
– ¼ cup light brown sugar
– ¼ cup white vinegar
– ground black pepper to taste

In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together the mustard, honey, brown sugar, and vinegar. Season with black pepper. Bring to a boil, and let simmer for 5 minutes. Pour over cooked pulled pork or beef. If you want more flavor, let the meat simmer in the sauce for about 30 minutes.

Mayonnaise-based barbeque sauce

Mayo has a mild flavor and a creamy consistency which gives Mayonnaise-based barbeque sauce a soothing flavor that completely blends with seasonings and spices. The mild flavor of Mayonnaise-based barbeque sauce pairs well with chicken recipes. You can try making whole chicken barbeque, grilled chicken breast, barbecued chicken thighs, etc. with this sauce.

Sauce Recipe:

– 1 ½ cups mayonnaise
– ¼ cup water
– ¼ cup white wine vinegar
– 1 tablespoon coarsely ground pepper
– 1 tablespoon Creole mustard
– 1 teaspoon salt
-1 teaspoon sugar
– 2 garlic cloves
– 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish

Combine all of the ingredients in a medium-size mixing bowl; whisk until completely combined. Serve with your favorite barbecue dishes. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Use this BBQ sauce for chicken breasts and chicken thighs.
