The Commercial
Happy Smoking!

Guess I’m an old western purist…the cabin in the woods, a man/his dog, smoked food was attention holding….you had me up until the gap toothed gal telling me what to do…that last part took the wind outta the sails for me and seemed like the old advertising “sex sells” cliche’ come-on.
Score: Up until he opens the door – 10 out of 10
Score: After she speaks – 2 out of 10 ( a 2 for at least showing the inside of the cabin!
Uh…um…ok? First off….I think everyone (mostly men who smoke) would be way more interested in the girl in the bearskin rug(?) then the smoker…you need to gove the brand more “facetime” in the commercial. I think I only saw it twice (and if it were on more then that…I missed it)
Second…if you want to do cheesecake…get the girl to start peeling off her clothes to get to the perfectly smoked food? Maybe she talks about her “friend ” Bradley and how good he is……hell I don’t know…but it needs work…get the brand more in the commercial….
Just my 2 cents…
Being a die hard smoker I think this commercial is FANTASTIC. Not only does it sell the Bradley Smoker, The man speaking takes you back to how his grandfather used to smoke fish. And when he says its going to be a long winter! Yeah and allot of smoking.
His faithful dog just adds to it. And the woman, Well i think she likes Bradley smoked fish too.
To the other poster, old old old guys? Maybe you need to go back to propane grills.
I’m not a professional writer.
Very profesional and a comercial you will remember but it is in my opinion to little exposure of the brand and the smoker.
For example:
When the man walked in the to the fantastic lady, the dog should call hes friends “the coast is clear, ther are busy now” and press the switch with hes paw and sit around the smoker or such. Then the popup text could be something like “The bradley smoker, It´s so easy everyone can use it” Focus and humor
Just brainstorming but more exposure Would be benefitial I think.
Would have been nice to see a final shot with all models of the smoker featured, just so the viewers know that they were watching an ad for smokers.
Overall, not really as creative as some Budweiser commercials, but nowhere near as bad as some godaddy.com commercials.
I love how the dog wanted some… Heck, I feed my dog “people food” that’s good such as smoked foods. Hes my best friend.
The woman in the cabin kind of made it that “sex sells” as if the product was in need of extra leverage for marketing. Sure, it was nice to see a half naked woman who looked nice, but does Bradley really need this for advertising their product? I can see it for selling big macs, but not something like a Bradley.
I just don’t understand one thing not that its a problem but did make me wonder. Is Bradley starting to go after Spanish speaking “I assume it was Spanish” ? This would be great as to expand sales and get the name out, but has Bradley thought maybe many English speaking buy their product as well, and feel a little intimidated by this? When I watched this, I missed the first few subtitles being ready to hear English. Has Bradley thought about doing 2 ads? One for Spanish speaking and one for English speaking?
Being a Canadian makes me think that the language spoken was native until I saw the brunette (not native looking).
Never the less, using a foreign language made it more interesting. Also adding the dog, appeals to the outdoorsy “man” which most of them own dogs.
10 out of 10……….great commercial.
Let me know when and where it will be showed. Would like my wife to see it so I can promote my mistress even more!

As a red-blooded male it is enticing, what else would one need but smoked salmon a best friend dog and a beautiful woman, but as a red blooded Christian I am a little offended – but not enough to turn away and not purchase. I’m glad you used a digital, but I think if you could emphasize how easy and hands off the smoking is it might be more effective. Maybe something like seeing her first, shutting the door and seeing the smoker chugging away and the dog howling at the moon, and him emerging some hours later to retrieve the food. Maybe emphasize all the flavors, and the smoker able to do all a big rig (brisket, butts, hams, turkeys,, etc….) can do but only cleaner and easier. It would be fun to also see something of the Jack and Beam flavors kicked in. Something like “A long night near the Arctic Circle, your best friend, a beautiful woman, a bottle of Jack and Jack flavored salmon – what more could you wish for? Cabin fever – what’s cabin fever?”
I’d score it as an 8 only because of the lack of emphasis on the ease and product. It will certainly catch a lot of interest’s eyes – sportsmen, outdoormen, dog lovers, etc…..
A 10 for the candy – both the salmon and the eye kind.
i understand the reference to the native american culture.
and how times change.
and i think it is really fun that the dog wants some,
in reference to the girl there should be a little more humor there?
like maybe while checking on bradley get some firewood?
I like the link to the First Nations and how things were and how they are now, but how about a little more of the smoker and it’s operation. I think I saw a quick peek at the control panel of a digital smoker but unless you are a Bradley person you would never know what just flashed by. The Smoked Salmon is nice but only one rack and it was not even full. Cute dog and cute woman but do you really think that Bradley needs sex to sell their product. I don’t. A little more of the smoker and less of the half naked woman in my opinion.
I also like the commercial aspect up until he went into the cabinet with the girl.
I have a little different twist on this that I think would play more to the branding and product.
The girl section could be changed to a nice romantic setting with them eating the product. Here it sells the product, great food, great taste, and yes it can be romantic.
I would also brush some glaze or olive oil on the fish to give it more screen appeal. It looks dry on the racks and from a screen perspective, not as appetizing.
As for you current version, it is O.K. but not great. The girl’s look was not super hot and neither was the dialog so I was not a great selling point to me.
Score 6 out of 10.
Good attention getter, but should then include the ease of use and great results of food.
5 of 10
A closing view of the smoker lineup would be a good closing.
And perhaps the girl open her robe to reveal a brisket and apple flavored Bradley pellets.
Score: 8 of 10.
As a dealer, I am so happy you are advertising the product on TV. I feel that the actual smoker doesn’t get enough air time in this commercial. (its less than 5 seconds out of the minute).
If you don’t already own a Bradley, you might not know what this commercial is about.
I think with the low cost of air time, you may consider an Infomercial. It seems to work for the Snuggie and Sham Wow.
Mike
I iked it a lot but then I am also not one to get get all excited about commercials.
I loved the man and the dog scene, nothing better than smoking up some good food while the dog is nearby salivating smelling it and just waiting for his master to come free it from the smoker.
The rest of the commercial was just gravy, I am not easily offended, I got what the intent was and saw no big deal with it.
Good commercial but like I said, I am the ype of guy that does not get real excited about commercials or shopping in general.
Score: B
Thought the ad was very good. Agree with many of the other comments, more air time for the smoker, highlighting the Bradley name. Some who are not paying attention may not get the brand name immdeiatly. Otherwise very good, a mix of selling the romance of smoking, man’s best friend, and a little fun in the cabin.
8 of 10
Huh??? I was confused about what the girl and winter had to do with the 1st part of the commercial. Just an excuse to use sex (as in, what sells a product) Didnt work. I even watched the previous commercial to see if it tied in to some running joke ( theme???) Nope. Try again.
I thought the dog was good and the meat looked good, but I think the there could have been more emphasis on the smoker instead of what was going to happen with the gal when the fur hit the floor. Not much attention to the qualities of the smoker. I wasn’t impressed with this ad. Rated it a 5
Ok the first thing I noticed was that the dude grabbed the racks with his bare hands. If he had the heat on in the smoker he would have burnt his hands. Also, why was it in another language with English captions below? Maybe they should have the employees get more involved with the commercials. (WINK WINK)
Score of 4 or 5. The guy needs a Bradley hat on. Nice begining with the dog and smoker but the commercial should end with the smoker or a table full of smoked goodies.
I agree with most comments posted on here. I think the “Bradley” name needs a lot more “face” time. I think you should embellish on the final product since that is what we are all striving for each time we open up the door of our Bradley’s. Also, I think the commercial should be based more on family and friends, not on two people. Normally, when we cook like this it is for lots of people. Just my $.02 and I hope it helps!
“Commercial was interesting, but as someone seeing it that is considering a smoker, it really didn’t tell my “Why Bradley” –that’s how I came to find it on the site, and I can’t say it helped nudge me one way or the other. If you’re doing a lot of commercials and they all tie around a humor theme, I’d say sure –but if this is a one-off commercial, it really needs to do more to sell the product. It doesn’t tell me that smoking is better than grilling, and it doesn’t tell me that Bradley is the right option for my smoker.
I like the tie in to how this way is better than the traditional way – but I personally consider smoking meats as a labour of love and my dog, regardless of how beloved, would only get leftovers or bones. I have a dog and that aspect did nothing for me in the commercial.
If you wanted to use the ‘sex appeal tie in’ – how about having the bearskin clad girl bringing him a drink outside while he does his ‘man stuff’ with the smoker?”
Score: 6 of 10.
I’m sending an email thru to the info address as per your contact page instructions. I’m still interested in seeing if this is right for me, but the website, just like this commercial, is “pretty” but doesn’t give me any meat (ironic for this I guess) to help decide how to proceed. It looks like something an ad agency would pitch to create “brand awareness” but really –do you want people to buy or not? If you’re not currently doing any commercials (and from the dealer comment online, it sounds like that’s the case) then I’d suggest something a little more direct – something that gets the consumer’s attention, generates interest, creates a desire for the product, then suggests they go take some action and get one. Personally, I’d rather have customers talking about my smokers than people discussing the merits my smoker commercials….
Getting opinions like this is fine- but seriously, if the people commenting don’t purchase, what does it matter what their opinion is? I would think a far-better commercial would be someone “real” –an existing customer having a big party and supplying all the slow-smoked meats for everyone. Amazing food, complimenting good times, and all done very easily with the application of Bradley technology. Sell the experience of being an owner of your product. The sense of pride when their friends and family come over for the most-amazing meal they’ve ever had – all the guests gushing and complimenting their hosts on the fabulous food…
I also agree, there was a “Sizzle” when he opened the door and he would have burnt his hands on the grates. The meat looked like it had been previously cooked then just placed in there. Freasly smoked salmon has more of a “Sheen” on the meat when I smoke it.
Details aside, I thought it was funny. Most folks may not realize the comercial is about a smoker though.
The bear commercial was great. I would not change a thing.
the one with girl does no show the product enough of give any detail on the smoker
The bear commercial was great. This one is short on product focus. There could have been a couple of more seconds spent on the Bradley logo when the smoker door was shut. Likewise, there could have been a few more seconds spent showing the digital panel at the beginning. All of the product shots were just a little too short to absorb. Maybe there is just a little too much going on in the story to fit a standard commercial time slot but the product should be more prominently featured. I think I’d trade dialog time for product time. Good actors who fit the scene well. Lovely young lady. The dog steals the show though.
I think an english speaking person would be better. I also think its kinda funny that they are out in this remote cabin, have electricity and have access to a location that sells the Bradley pucks.
The last part at the end with the woman is kinda dumb to me.
i wounldn’t change a thing i needed a fish smoker and i saw d commercial and i was sold
Hey guys and gals, we watched your commercial…..and don’t take this personally cause we love your stuff…and we would love to have your commercial one day soon to….we could do it, well… better…no offense…and it would be funny and people would get it and it would sell….and the slogan at the end would just add to it….Wanna here it…get in touch….Hey we can relate to the ones buying and using your gear…Love to hear from Ya.
Cheers,

Hey, I liked the commercial. I own a smoker, but I’ve never heard of Bradley. I’m on your website now, and I’m taking the time to leave a comment. “Nuff said? I can find out about your product online or by calling the number, but first you have to catch my attention, and you did. I’ll be playing the commercial again for my wife when she gets home, and I’d borrow money to bet that she thinks it’s funny too. For the “sex sells” crowd. lighten up, please. The lady in the commercial was attractive, and there was some suggestive dialog, but your average 12-year-old would not be fazed by any of it. Political correctness is the death of humor. As I’m typing this comment, there’s a commercial about “male performance problems” on the same channel in the middle of the day that I find much more likely to offend than the fairly innocuous scenario in your ad.
I was online tonight looking to purchase a smoker for the first time. My husband and I just got a new home (in Chicago), and we have decided that we want to smoke turkey at thanksgiving, and have some smoked bbqs this summer. So I have been on the site for probably 15 minutes so far trying to figure out how a smoker works, benefits, etc. And so far, I really like this site and was thinking about purchasing the digital smoker. Then I came across this commercial requesting feedback… Now I am a bit stunned. The commercial was absurd, and left me feeling offended and really turned off by the product. I don’t hunt, fish, nor stay in cabins. I live in the city and want to explore trying new gourmet flavors and slow cooked meals. What happened to the simmer and sensation of a really great meal? (and one that is easy to make). The fact that a dog wanted to eat it tells me nothing – my dog will eat scraps off the floor left there for days.
Nice setting in the woods …..a man and his dog in a log hunting cabin, smoking meat to last for the winter . where does he get the power from ? and a half naked woman wrapped in an animal skin !! what are you trying to sell the smoker or the woman ? I think you have a great product concentrate on that you don’t need the the cave woman .
I didn’t like it at all. What I disliked the most was it did a very poor job selling the product. In no way did it show me a Bradley smoker does a better job than any other smoker out there. It didn’t indicate if he went through more or less trouble to get the smoked meat he pulled from the cooker. It didn’t look like very much meat on the rack at all. I don’t like subtitles so him feeding and talking to the dog was good but I didn’t catch it all the first time through. The lady did nothing for selling the product and as the commercial ended it left me thinking “Well that was a stupid commercial.”. I truly believe if I saw this on TV it would take 10+ times seeing it before you knew what was being sold. I would probably think “damn I hate drug advertisement infomercials”!

I like the final cut of the commercial. It plays on a lot of ideas that we, as men can relate to. Cabin, snow, dog, smoker, hot girl. Pulling on the aesthetic of a good beer commercial, but with more subtlety. My only (minor) complaint is from a marketing perspective, and that is that I do think a little less subtlety on the product placement might have been in order. I give it 8/10.
When i was deciding on which kind of smoker to buy the deciding factor for me was the Bradley Bisquettes. Not only are they convenient and easy to use, they are cool and fun. Much better than wood chips. Maybe you should focus a little on the bisquette dispenser. That is a major selling to point to people who do not know much about smokers.
What’s your message, Bradley Smokers make food that smells like dog food? Your commercial is more a Smoking Public Awareness campaign than a statement why the Bradley Smoker line of products should be your only choice when purchasing a smoker. I just learned about Bradley Smokers this weekend at a small retail shop in Grand Junction Colorado, I see the consumer benefits in the following order:
1. Automated smoking process, one Bisquette every 20min, load your food… Bradley does the rest.
2. “The Secret” – Bradley Flavor Bisquettes
3. Consumer benefit… You’ll love the perfectly smoked flavor that only Bradley Smokers can provide.
4. URL and Call to action.
I wouldn’t invest even one more dime it the commercial you have posted here, you’re throwing good money after bad.

I think the average joe out here should stick to there day jobs and leave the creative field of commercials to the people in that field. The commercial got our attention and it didn’t offend any groups and is as good as any other commercial out there if not better!. Nothing better than fresh grub, fresh air and a hot sexy woman! The first commercial sorta reminded me of that “Vern” character who was funny the first time round so fresh faces are welcome. What will be interesting is not what we bloggers have to say, but the actual numbers from the company…my guess is sales will have increased due to this commercial. I’d like to buy match grade barrel in 308…hmmm…someday yes…but I think I’ll use that 550$ and buy one of these Bradley Smokers from Cabelas here in Canada.!

Great setting for the commercial, although I’m going to follow trend and say that it needs to focus on the product and the food it creates a little more. Some coverage of a savory pork loin, jerky, roasts, fish and poultry would get mouths watering. Show the ease of use for the machine. I just got done smoking a nice pork sirloin roast and still have the smell of smoke lingering around me telling me the product deserves more attention. Thank you for making a wonderful product and expanding my culinary skills.

Hi,
Lol I thought that was going to be something in the cabin not just a woman.
Great vid shame im not going to see it in the UK (I know it said this is open to USA but thats just for the gifts right? and not to say welldone?). A+ 9/10 as the dog should have been in the smoker at the end finishing of the rest of food hehehe
So when will you guys be doing vids for UK TV?
THANKS! You guys do a great blog, and have some great contests. Keep up the good work.
Bad Commercial – Did not show any of the uniqueness or benefits of the Bradley Smoker.
A city guy enters a smoking cookoff. He is surrounded by complicated smoking contraptions and fretting cooks with all their bizaar smoking rituals. Show the Bradley Smoker automically smoking the food while he falls asleep and snoozes away the day. The Bradley does all the work (automatic biscuit loader, etc.) The timer wakes him up just in time to serve the judges his winning dish. The Bradley Smoker, It’s easy, it’s mistake proof and the results are award winning. What better message do you want to convey?

I have been using a bradley smoker for over 10 years,my family and I enjoy it very much. But being of aboriginal decent I thought the commercial to be very distasteful.Clean up your commercial so people will enjoy it as they do the smoker.
dumb! Those of us who live the lifestyle that would have us buying your product, dont really need the sex in our advertisements. we just aren’t that dumb. your smokers are great, let that be the focal point. you gotta remember who you’re selling to. I did read that the guy from the UK liked it, but this ain’t Europe. Thanks
I’VE HAD MY BRADLEY NOW FOR TWO YEARS ANDS I LOVE IT .. OH YA! THE COMMERICAL I THINK IT WAS GREAT.. BEING A MAN I HAD TO SMILE AT THE END …SPECIALLY WHEN HE SAID IT’S GOING TO BE A LONG WINTER ..AN IT WAS THIS YEAR…AGIN LIKED THE ADD…
I wish I could view it on the intended media but since I don’t indulge in TV currently I guess I will have to be satisfied seeing it here.
If I wasn’t already sold on a Bradley smoker or didn’t know what it was, this commercial wouldn’t make me want one.
I’ve been started conducting a reasonable quantity of basic research on direct internet marketing for a brand-new review that i’m working away at and really felt like expressing that you web log is rather sound. Thanks for the topical data you have assembled.
You can tally me in for a Digg. Thanks for posting this on your site!
Substantially, the post is actually the greatest on this worthw hile topic. I harmonise with your conclusions and definitely will thirstily look forward to your coming updates. Just saying thanks will not simply be adequate, for the extraordinary lucidity in your writing. I can without delay grab your rss feed to stay abreast of any updates. Fabulous work and also much success in your business enterprize!
Well, I kind of forgot about the smoker when I saw the redhead. Probably a good idea to provide less distractions from the product your trying to sell.
